Pump house
Public viewing of the ship in situ
The pumping station seen here was built by Costruzioni Meccaniche Riva di Milano who undertook the huge task of draining the lake to facilitate the recovery of the ships. Later a floating pumping platform was used to suck the water up and then it was pumped through the old Roman conduit to exit outside the volcanic crater from where it was funnelled down to the sea by means of a purpose built canal.
